This course is intended to make design engineers aware of decisions that could improve the roadside safety of Illinois roads and issues that will affect the barriers’ capability to function as intended. Specifically, participants should have a better understanding of the following after attending this course:

  • The clear zone concept.
  • When roadside and median barriers are warranted.
  • Optimal design of barrier installations.
  • Selection of the most appropriate terminals or crash cushion per site conditions.
