This training is Core Module #2 for Level 1 of the new Road Safety Champion Program created by the Rural Safety Center, NACE, NLTAPA, and WRTWC. To learn more about the program, please visit https://ruralsafetycenter.org/training-education/road-safety-champion-program/.

This two-hour training will provide an overview of human factors principles and a framework for crash analysis. It will allow the non-expert in human factors to more effectively bring consideration of the road user’s capabilities and limitations into policies and practices. Knowing how road users interact with their vehicle, the roadway and other road users can also provide useful insights to the process of crash analysis. A framework for crash analysis will be introduced that helps make best use of available safety data and supporting documentation to identify factors that contribute to crashes. Armed with that knowledge, construction and maintenance personnel, planners, engineers, public health professionals and law enforcement can work together to target appropriate countermeasures to help reduce injury crashes.
