Date: October 13, 2026
Time: 11:00am – 12:30pm PT
This webinar presents findings from the AAPTP Balanced Mix Design study on the cracking potential of asphalt mixtures for airfield pavements. The session focuses on approaches for assessing an asphalt mixture’s cracking under service conditions. In addition, the presenters will discuss the development of practical methods for characterizing cracking initiation and progression. Attendees will gain an understanding of how different approaches distinguish mixtures with varying cracking potential, how the findings were validated using field performance data, and considerations for future implementation.
Attendees will able to:
- Explain the mechanisms of load-related cracking in airfield asphalt pavements and why cracking potential is an important consideration in balanced mix design.
- Describe practical approaches for evaluating the cracking progression of asphalt mixtures.
- Discuss how cracking potential evaluation can be incorporated into balanced mix design and quality assurance/quality control practices for airfield pavements.
