Are you designing roads that send the right messages to drivers at the right time? Reduce the likelihood of user error by designing systems, tasks, and environments that take inherent, relatively stable human capabilities and limitations into account. TRB will host a webinar on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM Eastern that will explore how the NCHRP Research Report 1148: Human Factors Guidelines for Road Systems: Third Edition can help transportation professionals design safer roadways by accounting for the abilities and limitations of road users. Presenters will discuss the relationship between roadway design, human factors, and traffic safety; demonstrate how to navigate and apply the HFG3; and share a practitioner case study illustrating how the guidance has been used to support safety analyses and roadway design decisions in Washington state.
