SUMMARY:FHWA Local Road Technical Assistance Webinar
DESCRIPTION:FHWA Local Road Technical Assistance \nDate: May 3\, 2023\nTime: 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm ET\nOrganization: Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) \nLearn how local agencies have continued to benefit from FHWA roadway safety technical assistance! \nThis upcoming FHWA webinar will showcase the benefits realized by two county agencies\, one city\, and one Tribal transportation agency. The safety benefits received from the technical assistance will be discussed which have extended beyond the boundaries of these specific agencies. The Office of Safety technical assistance program most recently coordinated with local and Tribal agencies to develop local road safety plans and corridor-level safety analyses complete with safety strategies and implementation recommendations. \nThe webinar will provide information on accessing available technical assistance\, the different format technical assistance can take\, and feature the benefits realized by the participating agencies. Technical assistance included workshops and trainings\, data enhancement and analysis\, safety issue and countermeasure identification\, and safety planning. These efforts featured collaboration between county\, local\, and Tribal agencies\, State DOTs\, FHWA\, and LTAP Centers to tackle priority road safety issues. \nTo register for this webinar\, click here.\nLink: https://forms.office.com/r/75NrDYFKKK

SUMMARY:FHWA Innovation Exchange Webinar Addressing Nighttime Visibility for Safety
DESCRIPTION:Nighttime adds another dimension to intersection\, roadway departure\, and vulnerable road user safety. The nighttime fatality rate on the Nation’s roadways is three times higher than the daytime rate. Urban areas usually have streetlights near schools\, parks\, transit stops\, sports complexes\, and the like to help illuminate pedestrians\, but what are other effective safety countermeasures\, including for rural areas? Streetlights\, although highly effective\, can come at a price. \nFHWA will host an Innovation Exchange Webinar with subject matter experts to discuss options for increasing nighttime safety. The discussion will include experts from FHWA\, local agencies\, and the National Park Service\, to provide a perspective of nighttime safety in intentionally dark areas. \nIf you have questions about this upcoming webinar\, please contact Karyn Vandervoort with FHWA’s Office of Federal Lands Highway at karyn.vandervoort@dot.gov. \nNo registration required. \nTo join the webinar: \nJoin ZoomGov Meeting \nMeeting ID:  161 162 7430\nPasscode:  889904

SUMMARY:Introduction to Pavement Management (Reno)
DESCRIPTION:A successful pavement management process is a dynamic and continuous cycle. A pavement management system helps agencies manage pavement data and use data to evaluate the roadway network’s health\, predict conditions\, and evaluate treatment options. \nAfter completing this course\, you’ll be able to: \n\n\n \n\nKnow what you have and what condition it is in\n\n\n\nTell your story with numbers and facts\n\n\n\nPlan work using performance-based decision making\n\n\n\nDisplay current condition\, projected condition\, work by year\, and other information visually in GIS maps\n\n\n\nRespond to changing budgets with clear indication of the impact over time

SUMMARY:Designing and Operating Roads for the Aging Population
DESCRIPTION:Designing and Operating Roads for the Aging Population – Webinar Series \nThis webinar meets 2 times. \nMay\nWed\, May 24\, 2023 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM EDT (Part 1)\nWed\, May 24\, 2023 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM EDT (Part 2) \nThis 2-part webinar series provides an overview of recommendations for designing and operating roads to better meet the aging population’s needs. Keeping our roads safe for older users is an emphasis area for many transportation agencies. There are over 40 million licensed drivers in the United States aged 65 or older – a 33% increase from 10 years ago. Older drivers represent about 18% of all licensed drivers nationwide\, with even higher concentrations in some states. Aging can impact a variety of skills and abilities necessary for safe driving. This workshop will familiarize participants with the physical\, perceptual\, and cognitive impairments that can impact the ability to safely navigate a vehicle\, and illustrate key strategies that agencies can implement for improving safety and mobility for older roadway users. It is intended for transportation professionals involved in designing\, constructing\, operating and maintaining streets and roads. The workshop content is directly derived from FHWA’s Handbook for Designing Roadways for the Aging Population and will familiarize participants with the recommended practices from the Handbook in the areas of highway geometry\, operations\, and traffic control devices. Instructor – Mark Doctor\, P.E.\, Safety and Design Engineer\, Federal Highway Administration Office of Technical Services / Resource Center (Atlanta\, GA). \nTo access a PDF flyer\, click here.
