SUMMARY:Olson Engineering Webinar: Nondestructive Evaluation of Tunnels\, Pipes & Conduits
DESCRIPTION:This Webinar will be presented by Larry D. Olson\, PE\, Chief Engineer\, and Dennis A. Sack\, PE\, Principal Engineer\, at Olson Engineering. \nNondestructive Evaluation (NDE) methods will be discussed for assessing the condition and geometry/makeup of various types of underground structures. Included will be assessment of concrete tunnel liners as well as concrete and steel pipelines and conduits. NDE methods can be used to look for voids behind conduits (such as dam outflow tunnels and grouted water pipes) and can also be used to measure current concrete thickness\, rebar details\, joint integrity\, and to map out areas of delamination\, erosion\, or other degradation for both forensic as well as quality assurance purposes. The NDE methods to be discussed include radar\, impact echo\, surface waves\, and slab impulse response.

SUMMARY:Iowa LTAP Webinar: Top 20 in Rural Bridge Replacement and Repair Innovations
DESCRIPTION:In the effort to promote more cost-effective approaches to replacing and repairing rural bridges without compromising safety\, the Soy Transportation Coalition (STC) has released the report\, “The Top 20 Innovations for Rural Bridge Replacement and Repair.” In order to select the featured innovative concepts\, the STC assembled a group of 13 bridge engineers and experts from the 13 states that comprise the organization. Three engineers served as principal analysts for the project with the remaining 10 engineers or experts serving as advisory committee members. The goal of the principal analysts and advisory committee members was to highlight a relatable number of innovative concepts that (1) will provide initial or life-cycle cost savings\, (2) have been validated by a credible engineering entity or organization\, and (3) is accessible in a large section of rural America.
