SUMMARY:Road Safety Champion Program - Module 4: Overview of the MUTCD
DESCRIPTION:The overall Road Safety Champion Program provides a high-level overview of road safety in the United States through seven modules. \nThe goal of Module 4–Overview of the MUTCD provides an introduction and overview of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The MUTCD defines the standards by which traffic signs\, road surface markings\, and signals are designed\, installed\, and used on all public streets\, highways\, bikeways\, and private roads open to public traffic. This module will help participants become aware of the need for uniformity of traffic control devices\, its legal requirements\, and related liability. Emphasis will be given to an understanding of the MUTCD\, Traffic Control Devices\, and Temporary Traffic Control.  The overall goal of this training is to provide participants with an overview of the manual and how to use it. \nBy the end of the virtual training\, participants will be able to: \n\nUnderstand the purpose and the organization of the MUTCD\nUnderstand the purpose of Traffic Control Devices (TCDs) and identify their five principles\nDescribe the fundamental principles of Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) and list the four components of the TTC zones

SUMMARY:Road Safety Champion Program - Module 6: Reading the Road
DESCRIPTION:The overall Road Safety Champion Program provides a high-level overview of road safety in the United States through seven modules. \nModule 6: Reading the Road \nThis 2.5-hour training will teach participants how to “read the road” as well as the importance of doing so in daily activities. It will use real world examples on different roadway components to demonstrate how participants may be able to uncover potential safety issues during their routine activities.  It will also discuss how the road safety audit process can be used to “read the road” in a more formal approach. The training will also discuss the consequences daily activities of workers may have on safety. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDefine what is meant by “reading the road.”\nIdentify potential safety issues or identify any indications which suggest road users may have challenges traveling or navigating a roadway.\nIdentify “reading the road” step(s) in the Road Safety Audit (RSA) process.\n\nRegister

SUMMARY:EDC-7 Webinar All About Adaptive Lighting
DESCRIPTION:Date & Time\nMay 14\, 2025 01:00 PM in Eastern Time (US and Canada)\n\n\n\nDescription\n\nRural roads are a key part of towns\, villages\, and Tribal reservations across the United States. However\, rural roads may face transportation safety challenges. During this webinar\, you will learn about strategies\, tools\, and Adaptive roadway lighting is the lowering or raising of the light level based on the needs of the context of the roadway and the users. With the introduction of new control and ballast technology that LED luminaires provide\, roadway lighting can be adapted to accommodate changes on the roadway such as traffic volumes\, weather conditions\, existing or background lighting conditions and pedestrian usage as well as address over-lighting and light trespass. Adaptive lighting also provides maintenance benefits by extending the life of lamps and drivers and increase the efficiency of maintenance staff. During the webinar\, roadway lighting experts will also share in-situ installations and results in terms of safety\, road users’ impressions and energy usage. This is a great opportunity to hear the latest in the technology and answer your questions.\n\nRegister\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Electrical and Arc Flash Safety
DESCRIPTION:3:30 – 7:30pm each day.  Only 5 seats available \nThis 7-hour class will provide participants with live instruction on worker safety requirements of the OSHA\, NFPA 70\, and NFPA 70E standards. Participants will learn about the seriousness of electrical injuries\, as evidenced by data from the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics. The four main types of electrical hazards will be identified and discussed. A brief review of electricity’s properties will also be included. \nThroughout the class\, the NFPA 70E standard’s key elements will be presented\, including definitions\, responsibilities\, training requirements\, job hazard analysis\, hierarchy of risk control\, electrical safe work practices\, lockout/tagout\, and PPE requirements. Participants will be encouraged to actively engage in a job hazard analysis of a task they select. \nAdditionally\, four case studies of fatal electrical accidents will be presented and discussed to illustrate the importance of hazard recognition and control. The class will also feature several videos demonstrating the explosive release of energy during arc flash events\, further emphasizing the critical nature of electrical safety.

SUMMARY:Chip Seal Best Practices
DESCRIPTION:Chip seals are a common type of surface seal. They provide one of the best forms of sealing the surface against moisture intrusion\, can significantly increase the surface friction\, and can extend the service life of an asphalt pavement as a preservation treatment. Although chip seals typically provide good performance\, there are occasions when a chip seal fails prematurely or does not provide the expected service life. This training describes how to achieve maximum performance and avoid premature failure. \nAfter this 2-hour virtual training\, you will be able to: \n\nCompare the types of chip seals based on their strengths and weaknesses.\nUse standard guidance and pavement condition information to select a good chip seal candidate.\nIdentify design and construction practices that ensure performance.\n\nAttendees for this class include people who select\, design\, construct\, or inspect chip seal projects.
