SUMMARY:Electrical and Arc Flash Safety
DESCRIPTION:This 8-hour one-day class will provide participants with live instruction regarding worker safety requirements of the OSHA standards as well as the NFPA 70 and 70E publications. The Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics data is presented to participants to indicate the seriousness of electrical injuries. The four types of these hazards are identified and discussed. A short review of the properties of electricity is included. Throughout the class the requirements of the NFPA 70E standard are presented to the class with descriptions and discussion as needed.  These include definitions\, responsibilities\, training requirements\, job hazard analysis\, hierarchy of risk control\, electrical safe work condition\, lock out and tag out\, PPE requirements and more. Participation is encouraged in a job hazard analysis of a student selected task. Four case studies of fatalities are presented and discussed to illustrate the importance of hazard recognition and control. The presentation includes several videos of arc flash accidents that illustrate the explosive release of energy when this type of event occurs.

SUMMARY:FHWA: Innovative Tools for Transportation Data Collection and Sharing in Tribal Communities
DESCRIPTION:November: Innovative Tools for Transportation Data Collection and Sharing in Tribal Communities\nThursday\, November 21\, 2024 | 1:00 – 2:30 P.M. ET \n \nSource: Figure 1. N.E. Fort Gibson Road. Cherokee Nation\, Oklahoma. Photo credit: FHWA Office of Tribal Transportation \nIn recognition of Native American Heritage month\, this webinar will showcase innovative tools being used in Tribal communities for data collection in transportation planning and data sharing in construction management. Participants will hear from the Northern Tribal Technical Assistance Program (TTAP) Center on results from a recently completed innovation project with the Northern Cheyenne and Crow nations using digital video recorders to collect network data. They will demonstrate this data collection technology as well as how the data can be used to assess roadway safety vulnerabilities with International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) Star Rating protocols\, which provide an objective measure of safety levels ‘built in’ to the road for vehicle occupants\, motorcyclists\, bicyclists\, and pedestrians. \nParticipants will also learn how digital project delivery tools are changing the way construction management data is being shared and integrated. This session will provide an overview of best practices in construction bidding and contract administration technology. The Cherokee nation will share how working with a research group has assisted Tribal and local organizations with efficiently managing and reporting on projects. \nRegistration is required. The FHWA CLAS will provide a certificate of participation and a link to the recording post webinar. Simply select “yes” when prompted during registration. If you have any questions about this upcoming webinar\, please contact\nMorgan Malley or CLAS@dot.gov. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister \n

SUMMARY:Managing Roadway Drainage Systems Virtual Training
DESCRIPTION:Drainage is one of the key asset classifications that transportation system owners are expected to maintain. The condition of drainage features and structures may deteriorate over time due to erosion and sediment buildup. Drainage maintenance is critical for extending the life of pavements\, as drainage assets control water flow along maintainable pathways. Routine inspection of drainage systems identifies needed maintenance and lessens the potential for flooding. This includes inspections of shoulder\, ditches\, and pipes and culverts. \nThis 2.5-hour virtual training teaches you to manage drainage systems effectively and efficiently by explaining: \n\nWhat types of drainage assets need to be inspected.\nWhat information is collected during an inspection.\nHow to determine if the condition requires a critical\, major\, or routine maintenance response.\nWhat treatments are appropriate\, given the type of drainage asset and its current condition.\n\nThe training follows the guidelines and structure of the Federal Highway Administration’s Maintenance of Drainage Features for Safety. \n  \nRegister \n  \n
