SUMMARY:Kansas LTAP webinar: Manage Self – Know Your Strengths\, Vulnerabilities\, and Triggers
DESCRIPTION:Now\, more than ever\, leaders are needed to help their agencies and communities tackle the changing challenges we’re facing in light of COVID-19. Luckily\, leadership is a skill that can be developed through learning and practice. KS LTAP is happy to offer free webinar training on Key Leadership Principles developed by the Kansas Leadership Center. This series is recommended for all levels because we’ve learned that leadership is an activity\, not a position\, and anyone can lead – anytime\, anywhere. \nWhat makes the Kansas Leadership Center different? The principles and competencies covered at KLC can help anyone hone the skills needed to successfully confront problems in organizations and communities KLC is different in that it focuses on helping people from all positions\, backgrounds and sectors learn the same four competencies of leadership. KLC has trained thousands of people worldwide around these four competencies\, which help people better diagnose problems and situations\, manage themselves\, energize others around a common purpose and intervene in ways that are more skillful and successful.

SUMMARY:New Jersey LTAP 3-Part Webinar Series: Common Sense Solutions for Intersections Training
DESCRIPTION:This course provides participants with (1) a basic understanding of intersection safety issues\, (2) “how to” information for common safety tasks and low cost safety improvements that do not require an engineered design\, and (3) background information on safety tasks that do not require an engineer. This workshop also outlines areas where non-engineers can assist traffic engineers in the safety process\, and help them to understand when an engineer needs to be consulted to make a safety related change to an intersection. \nIntended Audience: Individuals conducting engineering and traffic studies and those responsible for identifying safety problem and potential solution including street superintendents\, public works employees\, municipal managers\, elected officials\, and engineers. The course focus is on the non-engineer. This course is not geared towards law enforcement.

SUMMARY:New Jersey LTAP webinar: Work Zone Safety Awareness for Road Departments
DESCRIPTION:This course\, similar to New Jersey’s LTAP Work Zone Safety Awareness Program\, is specifically being offered to New Jersey municipal and county public works and utilities participants who require an overview of working safely in the roadway. As new or veteran employees enter or re-enter the public works profession\, they are frequently required to set up short-term work zones or are assigned to long-term projects. There are no allowances for errors when working next to traffic\, so it is important for personnel to have a solid understanding of work zone safety compliance with the national MUTCD standards. Also\, the roles of workers and enforcement personnel at work sites\, differences between NJDOT and local projects\, and legal responsibilities in work zones will be addressed during this program.  \nThe intended audience includes individuals who are performing maintenance\, construction\, or traffic control on municipal roadways including: public works employees\, and street superintendents.

DESCRIPTION:The Traffic Engineering Fundamentals training is divided into a 3-part webinar series. This session\, on April 16th\, is Part 3 of the 3-part series. Part 3 will cover traffic operations. \nIn the Traffic Engineering Fundamentals 3-Part Webinar Series\, the following topics will be covered: \n\nTraffic data and traffic studies – What kind of data do you need to collect and what do you do with it once you have it?\nTraffic design considerations for various types of roadways – Why do our roadways and intersections look the way they do and what are some of the options that are out there?\nTraffic operational considerations – Once you have designed it and built it\, how do you make it all work well?\n\nThis training is a high-level overview of the real basic concepts of traffic engineering and is thus ideal for people that are just starting to work in the field\, or for people that maybe work in related fields that want to learn the lingo of traffic engineering. One of the things that we aim to accomplish in the workshop is to introduce the various topics and point attendees towards resources where they can learn more if they are interested in additional information.

SUMMARY:Free FHWA Webinar: An Introduction to FHWA’s Quadrant Roadway Intersection Informational Guide
DESCRIPTION:Alternative intersections and interchanges offer the potential to improve safety and reduce delay at a lower cost and with fewer impacts than traditional solutions.  In 2014\, the Federal Highway Administration published informational guides for four innovative designs:  the Median U-Turn (MUT)\, Displaced Left Turn (DLT)\, Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT)\, and Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI).  Recently\, a fifth guide has been developed to provide information on the Quadrant Roadway Intersection (QRI). \nThe QRI concept uses a roadway in one intersection quadrant and three coordinated\, signalized intersections to eliminate direct left turns at the main juncture. This allows a reduction in signal phases to improve intersection safety\, capacity\, and efficiencies.  In addition to vehicular operational and safety improvements\, the QRI has many multimodal benefits\, including shorter and safer crossings for pedestrians and bicycles. \nFHWA is pleased to offer this webinar to all Federal\, State\, Municipal\, and Consultant transportation practitioners responsible for or interested in providing innovative solutions at intersections in need of operational\, safety\, and/or multimodal improvements. The webinar presentation will introduce the QRI Guide and review the information presented in the guide\, focusing on intersection operations\, safety\, various geometric forms\, and planning and design criteria to consider when evaluating the QRI as a potential intersection improvement alternative.  The presentation will also include information provided from several DOTs that have constructed a QRI in recent years.   Certificates of completion for professional development hours (PDHs) will be provided upon request. \nPresenters:  Jeff Shaw\, FWHA Office of Safety Technologies\, Guide Technical Manager; Jonathan Reid\, Arcadis\, Lead Author; Joseph E. Hummer\, NCDOT State Traffic Management Engineer; and representatives from State DOTs having implemented the QRI. \nRegister here.

SUMMARY:Free training: NHI 131139: Constructing and Inspecting Asphalt Construction Projects
DESCRIPTION:This course is now filled and registration is closed. \nNevada LTAP is hosting this two-day class\, free to local agencies\, on February 11th 8 a.m.–4 p.m. through February 12th 8 a.m.–4 p.m at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno. \nNational Highway Institute (NHI) 131139 introduces asphalt pavement construction best practices\, from the importance of understanding project administration roles and responsibilities to the most vital elements of laydown operations and compaction. Participants learn contract administration techniques\, recognize proper construction practices\, identify construction issues and their source\, determine the impact of construction issues on performance\, and select communication strategies for contractors\, consultants\, and superiors. They can then apply the knowledge and skills to maximize quality on construction projects. \nThe importance of a proactive approach to managing and inspecting construction projects is emphasized at every stage. This includes quickly addressing problems\, implementing corrective actions\, and documenting communications between the agency and contractor. \nThis course is designed for participants who ensure a project is built to the owner’s specifications. Participants can be relatively new to asphalt or general project inspection. Participants with broader experience can also take the course to learn about innovative asphalt pavement construction technologies\, participate in class discussions\, and share successful practices. The primary audience comprises Federal\, State\, consultant\, and local agency inspectors and contractor personnel who are involved in the preconstruction\, construction\, and review of asphalt paving projects. Multi-district or region attendance is encouraged to get a broader range of perspectives and ideas. \nThis course is eligible as a substitute for the NVLTAP Road Scholar elective course\, Asphalt Paving Technology & Maintenance.
