SUMMARY:Asphalt Pavement Alliance webinar: Designing a Perpetual Pavement
DESCRIPTION:Pavement engineers have been producing long-lasting asphalt pavements since the 1930s. Research has shown that well-constructed and adequately designed flexible pavements can perform well for extended periods of time. Many of these pavements were the products of full-depth or deep strength asphalt pavement designs\, and both design philosophies have been shown to provide adequate strength over extended life cycles. This is possible because both types of design rely on the construction of a sound base as a working platform and to spread traffic loads in addition to a thick asphalt structure designed to reduce the tensile strains at the bottom of the asphalt as well as the compressive strains at the top of the subgrade. This webinar will discuss material selection and mixture design to optimize Perpetual Pavement performance\, discuss current Perpetual design practices\, and present best practices for construction of high quality\, high performance pavements. \nBy the end of this presentation attendees will be able to: \n1. List the chief advantages of Perpetual Pavements\n2. Describe the functions of the various material layers in Perpetual Pavements\n3. Discuss the principle design features of Perpetual Pavements

SUMMARY:ATSSA in-person training: Traffic Control Supervisor – Las Vegas
DESCRIPTION:Note: this in-person course\, taught by the American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA)\, is open only to local agencies and tribes. Other agencies may contact tsmith@appliedpavement.com to waitlist. It is 16 hours across two days. The ATSSA Traffic Control Technician course is required before taking the supervisor course. \n\nThe Traffic Control Supervisor (TCS) course is designed to train those who will be actively involved in designing or setting up and maintaining temporary traffic control in a work zone. It moves from the concepts and techniques taught in the Traffic Control Technician (TCT) course to the implementation of traffic control plans and techniques for installation and removal. Students are taught how to read and interpret plans and specifications and implement them in the field. Workshops included in the course are designed to provide real world examples in designing temporary traffic control setups and also recognizing\, analyzing and correcting deficiencies. An additional\, vital objective of this course is teaching students the skills necessary to become an effective supervisor\, capable of leading a team in the field. \n\nRegister with Nevada LTAP using the form below.

SUMMARY:Asphalt Pavement Alliance webinar: Perpetual Pavements by Conversion
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will introduce the concept of improving or rehabilitating existing pavements into Perpetual Pavements. This technique\, known as conversion\, relies on principals similar to the design of new Perpetual Pavements but with some important distinctions. Both traditional and conversion Perpetual Pavement designs concepts will be presented\, with emphasis on the development of the design criteria\, application of the criteria to pavement conversion\, and existing design tools such as PerRoad and PAVEXpress to execute design. Real world case studies will also be presented. \nParticipants will:\n1. Learn the fundamental concepts needed to convert an existing pavement into a Perpetual Pavement.\n2. Understand how PerRoad and PAVEXpress can be used to facilitate Perpetual Pavement design by conversion\n3. See real-world examples of converted Perpetual Pavements.

SUMMARY:Minnesota Center for Transportation Studies: Innovative Materials and Advanced Technologies for a Sustainable Pavement Infrastructure webinar
DESCRIPTION:It is widely acknowledged that early detection of material damage and timely rehabilitation could lead to a significant reduction in the life-cycle cost of asphalt pavements. This webinar will highlight University of Minnesota research investigating the capabilities of graphite nanoplatelet (GNP)-taconite modified asphalt materials in damage detection and healing. \nThe presentation will feature two research components: \n–The application of GNP-taconite modified asphalt materials for damage detection using electrical conductivity. Findings show that\, as compared to conventional asphalt materials\, the modified materials exhibit an improved electrical conductivity due to the electron hopping mechanism. \n–The damage-healing capability of GNP-taconite modified asphalt materials upon microwave heating. Research shows that the modified materials can effectively absorb the heat generated by the microwave\, and the rising temperature can effectively heal the microcracks in the binder. \nThis webinar will be held in conjunction with a meeting of the CTS Transportation Infrastructure Research Council.

SUMMARY:FHWA webinar—Project Bundling: Planning and Capital Programming
DESCRIPTION:Evaluation of projects for bundling is best done strategically and early in the transportation planning process to gain economies of scale throughout project development. Ideally\, from a planning perspective\, identifying the set of candidate projects suitable for funding and bundling will occur before the projects are listed in the STIP. This webinar highlights how capital programming (also known as capital improvement planning by local agencies) is done\, along with methods for identifying candidate projects\, such as using asset management systems

SUMMARY:FHWA webinar: Project Bundling: Planning and Capital Programming
DESCRIPTION:FHWA’s new series of Project Bundling webinars focuses on agency bundling strategy\, why it can help you achieve your goals\, and how to develop business processes and rules addressing capital programming\, planning\, environmental analysis\, preliminary design\, project delivery methods\, and construction. \nIn this webinar\, FHWA will walk through six key steps to plan\, program\, and optimize a project bundle. \nEvaluation of projects for bundling is best done strategically and early in the transportation planning process to gain economies of scale throughout project development. Ideally\, from a planning perspective\, identifying the candidate projects suitable for funding and bundling will occur before the projects are included in the State Transportation Improvement Program. This webinar highlights how capital programming (also known as capital improvement planning by local agencies) is done\, along with methods for identifying candidate projects\, such as using asset management systems.
