SUMMARY:Balanced Mix Design for Airfield Pavements: Low-Temperature Cracking Prediction (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:This webinar presents findings from the AAPTP Balanced Mix Design study on low-temperature cracking prediction of asphalt mixtures for airfield pavements. The session focuses on approaches for assessing a mixture’s potential for crack initiation and discusses the development of a practical framework for characterizing low-temperature cracking progression. Attendees will gain an understanding of how the proposed methodology differentiates mixtures with varying performance characteristics\, how the findings were validated using field data\, and considerations for future implementation in practice. \nAttendees will be able to: \n\nExplain the significance of low-temperature cracking in airfield asphalt pavements and the need to consider cracking potential within balanced mix design.\nDescribe the methodology for evaluating the low-temperature cracking potential of asphalt mixtures.\nDiscuss the factors that influence low-temperature cracking progression and identify opportunities for incorporating low-temperature cracking evaluation into mix design and quality assurance practices.\n\n

SUMMARY:APWA Accreditation Open Forum: “Do You Need Outside Help?” (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Accreditation journeys look different for every agency. Some teams have deep internal experience and staff dedicated specifically to self-assessment and accreditation\, while others are balancing accreditation alongside many competing priorities. That naturally leads to an important question: what kind of support\, if any\, helps an agency move through the process most effectively? \nWhile most agencies complete accreditation entirely in-house\, others choose to supplement internal efforts with additional support\, which may include consultants or experienced external support from former public works professionals. These individuals are sometimes tasked with clarifying practice texts\, editing compliance statements\, organizing documentation\, and keeping the momentum moving throughout the process. \nThis free open forum will feature a panel of agency representatives along with professionals who have supported agencies through the accreditation process. Panelists will discuss why some agencies chose to use outside assistance\, what types of support were provided\, how those decisions fit their agency’s needs\, and what they learned from the experience. \nThe goal is to give attendees a clearer understanding of the available options so they can make informed decisions that fit their organization’s structure and capacity while pursuing accreditation. Following the forum\, all registrants will receive a two-page handout that includes considerations and questions to help when determining if outside assistance is right for your agency. Register today! \nRegistration: Free for members and nonmembers \nProficiency Level: Introductory \nNOTES: \n\nInstructions for joining the event will be emailed to you the day prior\, and day of the event.\nA recording of this program will be available through the APWA Resource Center 3-4 weeks following the live program.\nQuestions: (800) 848-2792\, accreditation@apwa.org\n\n  \nLAST DAY TO REGISTER: October 19\, 2026\, 12:00 p.m. Central Time

The second in the series will be on October 29th and will address automotive affordability. \nTransit options can provide riders with more affordable movement options. In recent years\, many transit agencies have explored programs to enhance ridership access\, especially as ridership patterns have shifted following the pandemic. At the same time\, many transit agencies confront fiscal cliffs\, and they must consider the balance of service improvements for riders\, affordability for users\, and fiscal resilience.  \nFor more information about this training\, click here.\nLink: https://enotrans.org/events/transportation-affordability-webinar-series-part-1-transit/

He will also discuss how cities\, towns\, and residents might rethink their approach to these important public spaces. \nLillian Prybil\, associate transportation planner with the City of Minneapolis\, will offer a local perspective\, reflecting on these issues through her work with parklets\, street cafes\, walking and rolling\, and other public realm initiatives in Minneapolis. \nFor more information about this training\, click here.\nLink: https://www.cts.umn.edu/events/seminars/2026/sidewalks

DESCRIPTION:Webinar: Travel Behavior as a Road Safety Strategy – How Exposure is Influenced by Land Use and Infrastructure\nDate: October 28\, 2026\nTime: 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm PT\nCost: Free\nContinuing Education Credits: Unknown\nOrganization: Center for Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety (CPBS)  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis webinar examines how exposure to kinetic energy introduced by motor vehicles influences road safety. The presentation covers a variety of geographies with a specific focus on a recent paper that explored 227 urban areas in 45 US states. The relationship between exposure-based measures—including automobile mode share\, vehicle miles travelled (VMT)\, and commute time—and motor vehicle occupant\, pedestrian\, and bicyclist fatalities is explored while controlling for other transportation and socioeconomic factors. Findings suggest that improving road safety requires not only reducing crash severity and conflicts but also reducing the underlying exposure to kinetic energy in the road system in the first place. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFor more information about this training\, click here.\nLink: https://www.pedbikesafety.org/webinars

DESCRIPTION:Webinar: Transportation Affordability Part 2 – Automotive\nDate: October 29\, 2026\nTime: 9:00 am to 10:00 am PT\nCost: Free\nContinuing Education Credits: Unknown\nOrganization: Eno Center for Transportation   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis October 29th webinar is the second in a two-part series on transportation affordability hosted by the Eno Center for Transportation and will explore personal vehicle affordability. The first in the series will be on October 20th and will address transit affordability. \nThe panelists will discuss recent trends in vehicle and fueling affordability for both electric and gasoline powered vehicles and how these are impacting transportation access. Increases to the price of gas following the War with Iran has increased the cost of transportation for non-electric vehicle owners. Additionally\, the cost to purchase new vehicles has increased\, incentivizing consumers to maintain their vehicles for longer lifecycles. Automotive vehicle affordability is important both for domestic drivers and for the competitiveness of US automotive companies in international markets. \nFor more information about this training\, click here.\nLink: https://enotrans.org/events/transportation-affordability-webinar-series-part-2-automotive/
