SUMMARY:Chip Seal Best Practices Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Chip seals are a common type of surface seal. They provide one of the best forms of sealing the surface against moisture intrusion\, can significantly increase the surface friction\, and can extend the service life of an asphalt pavement as a preservation treatment. Although chip seals typically provide good performance\, there are occasions when a chip seal fails prematurely or does not provide the expected service life. This training describes how to achieve maximum performance and avoid premature failure. \nAfter the training\, you will be able to: \n\nCompare the types of chip seals based on their strengths and weaknesses.\nUse standard guidance and pavement condition information to select a good chip seal candidate.\nIdentify design and construction practices that ensure performance.\n\nAttendees for this class include people who select\, design\, construct\, or inspect chip seal projects.

SUMMARY:Project Bundling
DESCRIPTION:Project Bundling is a method of awarding a single contract for several preservation\, rehabilitation\, or replacement projects. You may have heard about bundling’s impact on large-scale projects and bridge bundles; but be assured that bundling is an effective means for local agencies to reduce costs\, optimize available funding\, speed project delivery\, and attract qualified contractors. \nIn this brief presentation you will be introduced to the concept of project bundling and find out how the approach might benefit your agency. You’ll learn successful practices from several recent projects and find out about next steps you can take to implement the project bundling approach. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to learn the basics of project bundling. \nProject Bundling is a concept that requires a variety of participants and stakeholders. Because this is a process involving a number of viewpoints and consensus to be successful\, the following are encouraged to attend: \n\nAgency public works directors\, planners and engineers and procurement specialists\nConsulting engineers who might be assisting the agencies in identifying and designing projects\nContractors and fabricators who would be involved in construction\nTrade associations\n\nClick here for further information.

SUMMARY:Airfield Pavement Maintenance and Repair – Online
DESCRIPTION:This 2-day workshop (8-11 am both days) introduces the different techniques for maintaining and rehabilitating both asphalt and concrete-surfaced airfield pavements. The workshop concludes with a discussion of ways to improve an airport’s pavement program. \nThis workshop is intended for anyone involved in airfield pavement maintenance. It begins with an introduction to the different types of pavements and materials\, including an explanation of how they’re put together and the factors that affect how they perform. That introduction is followed by an overview of how to evaluate pavements by considering different measures of pavement condition. New content on some of the innovative sensor-based technologies being used for pavement evaluation highlight where pavement evaluation is heading. These introductory sessions lay the groundwork for presentations on the different techniques for maintaining and rehabilitating both asphalt and concrete-surfaced airfield pavements. The workshop concludes with a discussion of ways to improve an airport’s pavement program. \nAt the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to do the following: \n\nDescribe the different types of pavements and explain their typical performance.\nIdentify the different types and causes of distresses associated with flexible and rigid pavements.\nList various techniques included in a comprehensive pavement evaluation.\nIdentify appropriate treatments for flexible and rigid pavements under a range of conditions.\n\nAirfield Pavement Maintenance and Repair is an elective course of the Road Scholar Program.
