SUMMARY:Chip Seal Best Practices Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Chip seals are a common type of surface seal. They provide one of the best forms of sealing the surface against moisture intrusion\, can significantly increase the surface friction\, and can extend the service life of an asphalt pavement as a preservation treatment. Although chip seals typically provide good performance\, there are occasions when a chip seal fails prematurely or does not provide the expected service life. This training describes how to achieve maximum performance and avoid premature failure. \nAfter the training\, you will be able to: \n\nCompare the types of chip seals based on their strengths and weaknesses.\nUse standard guidance and pavement condition information to select a good chip seal candidate.\nIdentify design and construction practices that ensure performance.\n\nAttendees for this class include people who select\, design\, construct\, or inspect chip seal projects.

SUMMARY:FHWA Value Capture Virtual Peer Exchange
DESCRIPTION:Learn how Value Capture Special Assessment techniques can help your community address decaying infrastructure and enhance mobility and safety for users of all ages and abilities! \nThis customized topical peer exchange provides the opportunity for participants to learn and engage with nationally recognized experts and representatives from leading peer states and localities who have successfully implemented Value Capture Strategies to advance transportation projects and programs. Peer experts will present selected case studies demonstrating various value capture topics and concepts. \nAs the Federal funding for surface transportation has declined or is diminished\, infrastructure assets are\nreaching the end of their useful lives. Adding to this complexity is State and local pressure to fund emerging needs such as “Smart City” initiatives\, leverage new technologies\, and implement “Complete Streets” to ensure safety for all mobility modes. \nA special assessment district fee is a powerful value capture techniques that every State offers. All States\nhave at least one type of special assessment for funding and financing infrastructure necessitated by new\ndevelopment in their communities. This technique is especially effective for funding improvements that directly benefit property owners and helps to enhance property values located within the special assessment district.

SUMMARY:PPRA Webinar: Small Agency\, Big Plans
DESCRIPTION:Free webinar from the Pavement Preservation & Recycling Alliance: Small Agency\, Big Plans—What Pavement Preservation Managers in Small Communities Should be Doing to Maintain Their Road Networks \nLearn how the Town of Matthews\, North Carolina maintains their road network of 100 centerline miles with a very limited budget. From convincing the Town Board\, to projecting budgets and growth\, this small agency is beginning to gain ground and reverse the trend of a deteriorating network. \nEspecially now\, when agencies across the US and Canada are uncertain about the future of their road budgets due to the impact of COVID-19\, network optimization skills are more important than ever. \nIn addition to a first-hand account from the Town’s Public Works Director\, we’ll interview the transportation asset management consultants behind the program to understand the data and trends that informed the maintenance plan for this and many other small towns across the country. \nPresenters will walk through applicable and relevant tools found on RoadResource.org\, so viewers can begin putting the same principles to use in their own communities and begin building stronger road networks today.

SUMMARY:Iowa LTAP/InTrans Webinar: A Local Agency Perspective on Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures
DESCRIPTION:In recent years the amount of data that can be obtained from traffic signal systems has been greatly increased with the introduction of data logging software in controllers and through external devices. This can be used to derive many different analytical tools\, called Automated Traffic Signal Performance Measures (ATSPM)\, for monitoring and evaluating signal timing and detector maintenance. This presentation will give both an introductory background on what ATSPMs are\, the requirements for implementing the technology\, and some example use cases including an update on related research activities in Iowa.

SUMMARY:New Jersey LTAP Webinar: Conducting Traffic Sign Retroreflectivity Inspection
DESCRIPTION:This will be 2-day (2 hours each session) course for field inspectors to perform traffic sign retroreflectivity inspection using the approved methods by the FHWA for agencies responsible for sign maintenance. \nConducting Traffic Sign Retroreflectivity Inspection will provide online training for field inspectors to perform traffic sign retroreflectivity inspection using the approved methods by the FHWA for agencies responsible for sign maintenance. The 2009 Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) established minimum levels for traffic sign retroflectivity that must be maintained by all agencies with roadways open to the public. For traffic signs to be effective providing important information to drivers\, they must be visible both day and night. \nParticipants are welcome to join any of the two parts however a certificate of attendance will only be issued to those that attend the full session on both days. \n

SUMMARY:TRB Webinar: Forecasting Zero Emission Vehicles Fleet Scenarios & Emissions Implications
DESCRIPTION:How will future vehicle Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) fleet scenarios affect emissions of criteria pollutants\, mobile source air toxics\, and greenhouse gases? This webinar will discuss research on future vehicle fleet scenarios’ effect on emissions. Presenters will review literature and modeling analysis on U.S. ZEV adoption. The work provides insights encouraging the adoption of ZEVs such as electric or fuel cell vehicles with implications for state departments of transportation and metropolitan planning organizations seeking to make policy decisions to advance penetration of ZEVs into the light-duty vehicle fleet. Presenters will also discuss future research suggestions. \nThis webinar draws on research from NCHRP Web-Only Document 274: Zero Emission Vehicles: Forecasting Fleet Scenarios and their Emissions Implications. \nSome registrants will need to pay $95 to attend this webinar. Sign into MyTRB.org to view registration information.
