SUMMARY:Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE): Decide and Provide - Vision-Led Planning and Trip Generation (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Webinar: Decide and Provide – Vision-Led Planning and Trip Generation\nDate: September 17\, 2026\nTime: 9:00 am to 10:00 am PT\nCost: Free\nContinuing Education Credits: 1 PDH/CM credit\nOrganization: Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE)   \n\nThe world\, and transportation with it\, are changing in ways that are difficult to predict. However\, our transportation planning and development tools rely upon forecast-led paradigm of “Predict and Provide.” In combination with car-centric performance standards\, a Predict and Provide approach can result in the over-provision of highway capacity and under-provision of active transportation infrastructure\, making it more difficult to meet community goals for safety and livability. Rather than a Predict and Provide approach\, this webinar showcases a “Decide and Provide” approach to transportation planning that is vision-led\, access-focused\, and uncertainty-savvy. While still drawing upon trip generation data associated with previous land-use developments\, this vision-led approach also considers the influence of development design and the need to accommodate uncertainty in judging what transport provision is suitable for supporting access to employment\, goods\, services and opportunities for the communities concerned.

SUMMARY:Federal Highway Administration (FHWA): Showcasing the 2026 Build a Better Mousetrap Bold Steps\, Pioneer and SMART Transformation Award Winners (Virtual)
DESCRIPTION:Webinar: Showcasing the 2026 Build a Better Mousetrap Bold Steps\, Pioneer and SMART Transformation Award Winners\nDate: September 17\, 2026\nTime: 11:00 am to 12:00 pm PT\nCost: Free\nContinuing Education Credits: Unknown\nOrganization: Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEach year\, FHWA recognizes and celebrates local government and tribal agencies who pioneer innovative solutions that improve transportation performance by increasing safety and saving time and money on projects. This Innovation Exchange webinar will spotlight the first three of the five 2026 Build a Better Mousetrap winners. \n\nBold Steps Award – “Custom Culvert Steamer Hook-Lift Body” Claremont Department of Public Works\, NH The Claremont Department of Public Works created an innovative mobile maintenance platform. By modernizing a labor-intensive and hazardous process\, this practical engineering design significantly improves employee safety while streamlining setup and overall operational productivity.\nPioneer Award – “Snow Fence Pole Remover” Town of Riverhead Highway Department\, NY The Town of Riverhead Highway Department created an innovative Snow Fence Pole Remover built entirely from repurposed materials to solve a longstanding maintenance challenge. By reducing physical strain on workers while boosting productivity and safety\, this clever design delivers exceptional\, cost-effective benefits at virtually zero implementation cost.\nSMART Transformation Award – “Roadway Survey Mobile Rig” Johnson County\, Iowa The vehicle-mounted GPS device collection system\, designed and fabricated in-house by Johnson County\, significantly improves employee safety by drastically reducing exposure to traffic hazards. It streamlines data gathering while bolstering long-term transportation planning and asset management.\n\nPlease join FHWA to learn how these innovative solutions are transforming the industry\, and find out how you can participate in the 2027 Build a Better Mousetrap program. \nFor more information about this training\, click here.\nLink: https://usdot.zoomgov.com/meeting/register/ofRZBwM_QOe9bLdNuDUAjw#/registration
