SUMMARY:FHWA webinar: Value Capture Strategies—Transportation Utility Fees/Road Maintenance Fees – The Primer
DESCRIPTION:A transportation utility fee (TUF)\, also known as a street maintenance fee\, road user fee\, or street utility fee\, is an important tool for funding the repair and maintain for the preservation of streets\, upgrade sidewalks and add or improve pedestrian safety features and curbs\, as well as comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. \nFHWA has recently published a TUF Primer that provides information for State departments of transportation and local public agencies to consider implementing a TUF. The primer provides practical information on what TUFs are and examples of how municipalities are using them. It also provides points for consideration when thinking about instituting a TUFs program\, such as the favorability of the legal and regulatory environment for TUFs\, as well as whether and how TUFs can be used for financing. The primer offers examples detailing several ongoing TUFs programs in Texas\, Utah\, and Oregon. \nIf your city\, county\, township\, or tribe is facing funding challenges to keep your roadways in good condition and maintain proper safety for all users\, join us on April 5th\, 2023\, from 10:00pm-12:00 PT to learn from experts to find out how TUFs can improve your agency’s roadway condition! \nThere is no cost to participate\, but space is limited. Click here to register for the event! \nTARGET AUDIENCE: This webinar is intended for States\, cities\, counties\, tribes\, and metropolitan and rural transportation professionals looking for innovative funding and financial strategies to pay for transportation projects. SUMMARY:Airfield Pavement Maintenance and Repair – Online
DESCRIPTION:This 1-day workshop (7-am- 4 pm)  introduces the different techniques for maintaining and rehabilitating both asphalt and concrete-surfaced airfield pavements. The workshop concludes with a discussion of ways to improve an airport’s pavement program. \nThis workshop is intended for anyone involved in airfield pavement maintenance. It begins with an introduction to the different types of pavements and materials\, including an explanation of how they’re put together and the factors that affect how they perform. That introduction is followed by an overview of how to evaluate pavements by considering different measures of pavement condition. New content on some of the innovative sensor-based technologies being used for pavement evaluation highlight where pavement evaluation is heading. These introductory sessions lay the groundwork for presentations on the different techniques for maintaining and rehabilitating both asphalt and concrete-surfaced airfield pavements. The workshop concludes with a discussion of ways to improve an airport’s pavement program. \nAt the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to do the following: \n\nDescribe the different types of pavements and explain their typical performance.\nIdentify the different types and causes of distresses associated with flexible and rigid pavements.\nList various techniques included in a comprehensive pavement evaluation.\nIdentify appropriate treatments for flexible and rigid pavements under a range of conditions.\n\nAirfield Pavement Maintenance and Repair is an elective course of the Road Scholar Program.

SUMMARY:Road Safety Champion Program Core Module #2: Anatomy of a Crash – Understanding Human Factors
DESCRIPTION:This two-hour training will provide an overview of human factors principles. It will allow the non-expert in human factors to more effectively bring consideration of the road user’s capabilities and limitations into policies and practices. Knowing how road users interact with their vehicle\, the roadway and other road users can also provide useful insights into roadway safety. Armed with that knowledge\, construction and maintenance personnel\, planners\, engineers\, public health professionals and law enforcement can work together to target appropriate countermeasures to help reduce injury crashes. \nThe National Center for Rural Road Safety will host all seven core modules of the RSCP on Tuesdays starting March 14th and running until April 25th. \nNOTE: \n\nThese trainings will use Zoom. Please ensure Zoom is on your “safe” email list before registering to ensure you receive the link to attend.\nThese trainings are part of the RSCP\, so the recording WILL NOT be made available to registrants. Please only register if you can attend that day.\nYou do not need to attend all 7 modules and can take them out of order.\nYou must attend the entire training to receive a certificate of completion.
