SUMMARY:Solving ADA Design Challenges Session 1
DESCRIPTION:This free 4-hour online course introduces the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) design requirements and guidelines for public rights-of-way. The course also discusses design challenges and options\, based on engineering design guidelines\, for engineers and designers. The course runs from 9-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. PT with a 2-hour break in between. \nFamiliarity with the U.S. Access Board’s draft Proposed Guidelines for Pedestrian Facilities in the Public Right-of-Way is recommended\, but not required\, prior to attending this course. This publication may be downloaded at: http://www.access-board.gov/guidelines-and-standards/streets-sidewalks/public-rights-of-way/proposed-rights-of-way-guidelines. \nParticipants may send examples of design challenges to meeting standards and guidelines for accessible design. Please send maps\, photos\, and or descriptions to brooke.struve@dot.gov 2 weeks before the start of class. \nThis course is intended for transportation agency staff who design\, construct\, or inspect public rights-of-way for ADA compliance. Job titles may include: \n\nEngineers.\nDesigners.\nConstruction Inspectors.\nEngineering Consultants.\nPublic Works Directors.\n\nSolving ADA Design Challenges is a new elective of the Road Scholar Program.
