SUMMARY:Asphalt Institute Webinar: Asphalt Pavement Preparation and Paving: Best Practices for Quality and Smoothness
DESCRIPTION:The paving operation is a critical part of the construction of a high quality and smooth asphalt pavement. It is important to understand the paving process; materials and how they affect the operation\, proper operation of the equipment\, and the use of best practices in order to obtain a durable\, smooth-riding pavement that meets all the standards of quality construction. \nTopics to be discussed are: \n\nAddressing deficiencies in the underlying material\nTack coat best practices to ensure pavement layers are well bonded\nPaving equipment selection to adequately handle plant production\nConsistent and uniform flow of mixture to and through the paver\nUse of best practices to set up and operate the paver\nPlacement without temperature or physical segregation\nImproving joint density

SUMMARY:CalAPA Webinar: HMA Pavement Smoothness: New Specifications
DESCRIPTION:These two separate classes are a “deep dive” into new pavement specifications for pavement smoothness\, as well as best-practices for constructing smooth pavements in the field. Both classes are taught by Mike Robinson\, a paving consultant who formerly worked for Caltrans and private industry\, who brings his engaging style and real-world examples to this presentation. Attendees of each class will receive a handy digital reference book and certificate of completion. There will be ample time set aside for Q&A. Smoothness specifications and measurement have undergone major changes. Don’t be caught unaware.

SUMMARY:National Center for Rural Road Safety Webinar: Core Module #2: Anatomy of a Crash - Understanding Human Factors
DESCRIPTION:This training is Core Module #2 for Level 1 of the new Road Safety Champion Program created by the Rural Safety Center\, NACE\, NLTAPA\, and WRTWC. To learn more about the program\, please visit https://ruralsafetycenter.org/training-education/road-safety-champion-program/. \nThis two-hour training will provide an overview of human factors principles and a framework for crash analysis. It will allow the non-expert in human factors to more effectively bring consideration of the road user’s capabilities and limitations into policies and practices. Knowing how road users interact with their vehicle\, the roadway and other road users can also provide useful insights to the process of crash analysis. A framework for crash analysis will be introduced that helps make best use of available safety data and supporting documentation to identify factors that contribute to crashes. Armed with that knowledge\, construction and maintenance personnel\, planners\, engineers\, public health professionals and law enforcement can work together to target appropriate countermeasures to help reduce injury crashes.
